How does counselling work?

Counselling works by providing a safe and supportive environment for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Through open and honest communication with us, you can gain a better understanding of yourself, challenges, and strengths.

It's important to note that the counselling process is individualized and may vary depending on your needs and preferences.

  1. Initial Consultation

This is a free 20 minute phone conversation to discuss your concerns, goals, and expectations. This is an opportunity to determine whether our services are a good fit for your needs, ask questions, and provide information about our process.

  2. Assessment Session

We may use various techniques, such as questionnaires or interviews, to gather more information about your situation. Goal Setting: Together, we will establish specific, achievable goals for the counselling process.

  3. Exploration and Insight

We support you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and gain new insights into your patterns and coping mechanisms.

  4. Skill Development

We teach you new skills, such as relaxation techniques, problem-solving strategies, or communication skills, to help you manage challenges.

  5. Support and Encouragement

We provide a supportive and non-judgmental environment for you, offering encouragement and guidance along the way.

How long does counselling typically take?

The length of therapy can vary widely depending on your needs and goals. Some clients may see significant improvement after a few sessions, while others may require ongoing counselling over a longer period.

It's important to discuss your expectations and goals with us during the initial consultation.

All sessions are 50 minutes in duration.  Couple and family sessions may be extended to 80 minutes if needed.

“Love is an action even more than a feeling. It requires intention and attention, a practice we call attunement.”
